Sunset, o639 Hours
WORLD PREMIERE 2014
Matthew Neenan, with Composer Rosie Langabeer
The Sunset Club: Rosie Langabeer, Andrew Mars, Joshua Machiz, and Isaac Stanford
80 minutes
The Wilma Theater

This narrative evening-length work interprets the dramatic, true story of pilot Edwin Musick’s 1938 inaugural airmail flight across the Pacific.  With stunning dancers and an onstage cabaret-style band, audiences will be transported by the rich sights and sounds of pre-World War II New Zealand, Samoa, and Hawaii through this beautiful and intensely personal narrative of loss, longing, and paradise.

Press Reviews
"Thanks to [Neenan and Langabeer] and the dancers, Sunset, o639 Hours becomes beautifully elegiac, taking us into the hearts of people who lived decades ago and are now largely forgotten."
THE NEW YORK TIMES

"...the dances are full, juicy, atmospheric."
THE NEW YORK TIMES

"The two-act ballet is really a series of fantastical sketches that are like a dream you cannot unpack later, but makes perfect, poetic sense while asleep."
THE BOSTON GLOBE

"...the piece is as much a testament to human connection and vulnerability as a eulogy to Musick’s bravery."
